And a whole set of bags will become their natural appendix: an amulet-holder handing from their neck, a leather rucksack to carry their child on their shoulders, a pumpkin hanging from their arm for the freshly-squeezed milk and a leather bag on their belt.
Red like the land to which they belong, Himba women are ready to go. They probably don’t have the right look for someone embarking on a journey, but it is the duty of all nomadic peoples to wear their history written on their body, where they come from and where they are going. Every day, Himba women dress with themselves and leave. Their home is the route, their identity card is the body.
