A television communication tower was then built on Mount Alguacil, another sacred site, and finally a motorway to Valledupar was planned. But this was not all: in 1975 the farmers started to grow marihuana and produce cocaine. A business which led to the armed conflict in Colombia, transforming the peaceful Sierra into a battlefield. The indigenous peoples were thus caught between the crossfire of guerrilla fighters, paramilitary forces and the government. It was then that the Arhuacos decided to transform into reality the dreams woven on the mochilas. Guided by the mamos, the priests, they set off to reconquer the fertile Sierra Nevada valleys.
